Giving Back

3/24/2019 (Permalink)

A little extra time and effort goes a long way.

Giving back to the community is about much more than just writing a check. At SERVPRO of Indianapolis West, we try to take a more hands-on approach and partake in different activities that involve the betterment of the community. Here are a few more of the ways we have proudly helped:

Wayne Township Trustee’s Office

It seemed like just another day until the Wayne Township Trustee called us out of the blue. He’d received word that a local business wanted to donate over $17,000 in new school clothes. They wanted to see those clothes go to help low-income students in need--if only they could find a way to transport the gifts to where they were needed! We have a van that transports equipment with plenty of room to spare. We frequently move furniture and other large objects off the site of a fire or flood to our restoration facility. Bottom line: we had plenty of room to take the clothes to their destination, so we started up the van and made it happen.

Indy Fire Rescue House

Being in the fire restoration field, we learned very quickly about how a local fire department had set up a Fire Rescue House as a temporary shelter to help families coping with extreme and total losses. In some cases, those people had nowhere to go or needed shelter and time to make better arrangements. The Department saw the need and made it happen. The Fire Rescue House serves as a temporary refuge the Fire Department offers on a case by case basis.Supplies, such as toiletries and food, needed to be restocked regularly. Between occupants, the house needed attention: vacuuming and dusting, sheets requiring washing and replacing. Firefighters were volunteering their own time to see to the housekeeping, so we offered to be a part of it. Taking the burden off these brave men and women was a no-brainer for us. Our team has stocked the pantry several times, washed many sheets, and cleaned the furniture, probably more often than our own homes.

Church Dinners

When it comes to the community, the local church operates at ground zero. Churches act to provide shelter, comfort, and in some cases, medical care to people who are most in need. SERVPRO of Indianapolis West has sponsored fundraising dinners thrown by community churches to support a variety of good causes. We have provided food, beverages, plastic ware, to help churches help others.Community service and giving back is an integral part of what we do at SERVPRO of Indianapolis West. We're a business within the local area that relies on the people within it, and feel as if it's not only the right thing to do but our obligation to help better the community we live and work in.
